Welcome to LAVA PAC

 

We have formed a super PAC with the principal goal of drastically increasing the turnout of voters from the Africa Diaspora in Texas, Maryland, the District of Columbia and Virginia.

Referring to Census Data on African immigrants of Sub Sahara Africa of 2023, there are about

  • 320.000 residents in the State of Texas
  • 180.000 residents in the State of Maryland
  • 200.000 residents in the District of Columbia
  • 130.000 residents in the State of Virginia, most of them in Northern Virginia

According to the Brennan Center for Justice (1) the voter turnout of African American is consistently less than 15% between 2008-2022. We know that for those of the African Diaspora is even lower and from what we see in our own communities.

The reasons for low voter turnout in the African Diaspora are diverse but the main ones are as follow:

  1. Most folks from the African Diaspora came from non-democratic countries, they don’t have citizen participation and choice in their culture.
  2. Citizens from the African Diaspora don’t understand the political system and the impact it has on their lives
  3. Citizens from the African Diaspora lack education on the issues and how it impacts their lives
  4. Citizens from the African Diaspora are not always connected to the news cycle and do not know the candidates either at the local, State nor the Federal level and what they stand for, enough to make an informed choice.
  5. Citizens from the African Diaspora are turn off by the aggressive immigration debate which make them feel as half citizen and don’t think their voice can count for anything.

Our principal goal is to change this state of affairs, please join us help the African Diaspora reclaim its real political weight in America.

Candidate Introduction: April McClain-Delaney

  April McClain-Delaney is a Democrat, running for election to the U.S. House of Representative, to represent Maryland's 6th Congressional District.  The 6th District includes: all of Garrett, Allegany, Frederick, and Washington counties as well as a portion of Montgomery County. She is on the ballot in the general election on November 5, 2024.  2024. She have won the Democratic primary on May 14, 2024. McClain-Delaney grew up in Buhl, Idaho, where her father was a potato farmer. She obtained her bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and her law degree from Georgetown Law Center. McClain-Delaney worked in communications law, first with the satellite firm Orion Network Systems and later as the Washington director for Common Sense Media, a nonprofit focused on technology and children.
